Meet my new friend Odie. Odie is a seven year old male who I met today at the local animal shelter. Note that I took this photo from the shelter’s web site and it’s not a very flattering one of him. He’s much cuter in person.

I’ve decided to start volunteering at the shelter, and Odie and I went for a walk this afternoon. He’s such a gentle soul; shy but very lovable.

When I made the decision to volunteer at the shelter, there was one promise I made to myself: that I wouldn’t get attached to these animals. I’ll walk them, pet them, even bathe them, but I will not get to the point of wanting to bring one home. It wouldn’t be fair to them, since we’re a very busy household and we’re not around enough to give proper care to a pet, especially one from the shelter that often comes with its own set of issues.

That being said, it was an honour meeting Odie and I hope he finds his ‘forever’ home soon.
