Triacastela to Sarria – Part 1

Distance walked today: 25 kilometres
Total travelled so far: 683.7 kilometres

Today was the first time we really had a downpour. It rained for most of the morning and again at the end of the day as we were walking into Sarria. My Altus rain coat/poncho was put to the test and it performed brilliantly.

The highlight of my day was visiting Samos, where one of the oldest monasteries in the western world is located. As I walked around the ground floor of this Benedictine monastery I found it very calming and peaceful. I could understand the attraction of living a life of such order and simplicity. I saw an old man tending the garden and a thought came out of nowhere, “I used to do that here.” As crazy at it might sound, there was definitely something familiar about this place.
