Yesterday was the start of this year’s Yukon Quest, a 1,000 mile dog sled race from Whitehorse to Fairbanks, Alaska. We would always go down to the start or finish line when the kids were little (starting location alternates each year between Whitehorse and Fairbanks). Now that they’re all grown up, we don’t go very often and didn’t make it down there this year. However thanks to YouTube I got to take in some of the action anyway. I love the unadulterated joy exhibited by these animals. In this photo taken by my friend Sylvain, the dogs literally have grins on their faces – especially the ones in the front. What’s even more astounding is that in most cases, they cross the finish line with their tails still happily wagging.
